My Natural Deodorant – Can It Stand The Heat?

It has been a while since I have had a moment to sit down and write, the weather is getting nicer and activities are ramping up. With the warmer weather I thought it would be a good time for a deodorant update!

I am still using the all natural homemade coconut oil based deodorant product I purchased from a local homemaker. It is lasting longer into each day; I would say until around 4-5 pm now. That is about 10-12 hours. Last update, it was only working until early-afternoon, and I wasn’t sure if that was due to detoxing from the chemical laden anti-perspirants/deodorants or if the product was only going to work that long and I would need to apply it twice daily forever. As it stands now I  usually reapply if I am heading out in the evening – just to be sure I don’t stink! I am curious to see how it holds up in the hot summer weather that is to come – as that will be the true test. I did hit the ball diamond today and a late afternoon walk with the dog and just finished a Royally Fit workout – and it still held up so I think it will do just fine!

We did have one hot day where the jar changed to a liquid based product as the coconut oil separated slightly from the powder. I just stirred the product before using and then applied. It applied more as a liquid rather than a creamy powder I was used to, but the product worked the same. The concoction is much softer than than when I originally bought the stuff a few months ago just due ambient temperature. I also realized I should order and pick up another jar soon. Although I am on my first jar, and only about half way through, I will need to be prepared for when it does run out. I don’t want to be stinky!

I feel really good about this decision. It was a small change but something I used every day that was full of chemicals. I am working at changing small things in our lives to make us just a little healthier. I’ve heard of potential link to breast cancer with aluminum based products, but instead of scaring myself and reading all about it – I just decided to make the switch. There are definitely benefits to putting less chemicals on my body. If you are thinking of testing to see if it is for you – I provided lots of options in this post, many of them available locally.
