The Outcome: Everything Spring Show 2016

Last weekend we hosted the Mom Cafe 2nd Everything Spring Show. It was a free community event to support community charities and to help advertise, support and provide growth for 50 local small businesses. It was an event for the community with shopping and free fun activities all geared to a family demographic.

The businesses in attendance were fabulous. There was definitely something for everyone at the event. We aimed to have many more handcrafted and home grown businesses and the talent in our community was evident.

Collectively we gathered a car trunk full of non-perishable items for St. Vincent’s Pallotti’s Kitchen food bank and we collected over 600 bags for Milk Bags Unlimited. The bags have gone directly into the hands of the local volunteers who do the weaving for the milk mats. We invited One by One Breadworks to the event to sell their delicious products. They are a non-profit local bakery providing healthy breakfasts and lunches for children in non-profit housing.

In addition to the above, we will be giving $200 to Participation House Project (Durham Region) and $200 to The Clarington Project. They are both similar initiatives which provide activities and programs for youth and adults with physical and developmental disabilities within Durham and Clarington.

Our event was complete with an activity treasure hunt for the kids, which featured 19 free activities for them to partake in. Some of these events included free spring photos by SnowAngel Studios, free balloon animals by CST, several takeaways in the form of bracelet kits  (these were amazingly made by Mad Dragon Creative) to cups or stickers, and several fun games. Before leaving kids could drop off their sheet to be used as ballot for kids prizes. We also had door prizes for those who registered and attended, and awarded them this past week on Mom Cafe Facebook page. We gave away 50 amazing things!

We know it was a tough weekend to commit to with March break and Easter directly preceding, so we truly thank everyone who was able to make it out and support the event. We have another event in November, our 4th Annual Christmas Open House, which is perfect to get all your Christmas shopping done, have fun as a family and get a free photo with Santa! We encourage you to save the date now and start saving your milk bags!
