I wanted to take some time to thank everyone who came, shared, promoted or supported the Everything Spring Show this past weekend. It was a fun, community engaging event. We do have a few things to improve on, a bigger location with more space is needed as it is evident our community and events have grown, and definitely more stroller and aisle room. We always need more parking, but these issues aside, we made the best we could of this location, and a lot of great things for the community and charity were accomplished. We saw nothing but smiles and positivity from those who attended. If you came out I hope you had a great time.
It was a VERY busy event with more than 500 people, and we can only include the ones that registered for door prizes or visited the entry table and were counted. When we add 50 vendors, plus their family & friends who helped with setup & takedown, plus our volunteers, the Harmony Creek Community Centre was a bustle.
Our vendors were fabulous. I loved seeing all the different businesses our community encompasses. Local supporting local is the goal. The bake sale tables were run by young entrepreneurs. Our youngest at 9 worked towards raising funds for a computer, while our eldest high school girl raised money for clean water in Ecuador. They did really well for great initiatives. If you are looking for a vendor from the show, you can always check out the wall as the prizes are tagged (congratulations to those 50 amazing winners!), and there will be a permanent album from the event with each business table photo and page/website kept on Facebook and up within the next week.
Each time we choose a new food bank in the community to share the help among all avenues that provide aide. This time we collected non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army Oshawa. We estimate 400+ lbs of food was dropped off to the fire station for their collection.
Pop tabs – why did we collect these? We are having them made into jewellery and we will be selling them in the future for charity. We collected over 1000 tabs! Watch for the jewelry to be at future events and we post some up as soon as the first ones are crafted. If you would like to continue saving these for this initiative it would be much appreciated. We supported the following organizations financially with cash donations. $50 to Down Syndrome Durham, $100 to Girls Inc., and $100 to Hearth Place.
One other special thank you is owed to my friend Sarah. The day of would not run as smoothly without my trusted sidekick, and from morning until night on the day of she dedicates herself to whatever is needed. I am very blessed to have friends and a community who support my crazy ventures and truly support my beliefs in charity, local supporting local, and giving to our community. This also rings true in the number of friends and Mom Cafe followers who come out to the events when feasible. To all of you that made this event a success, thank you.
